Be a Wise Seeker

Even as we are involved in the Māyā, the prayer should constantly be there, whether it is verbalized or not. “Let me see more, let me understand more, I want wisdom in this play.”

So we should have that unceasing desire, we should keep the company of those who are more evolved on the journey, and we should keep friends with the discriminating power, the intellect, using the intellect in the light. The prayer of the Gayatri is to use the intellect in the light, not just in the play of the senses, not just in the seeking and finding in the material world, but we should open up to the intellect to ask, “Who am I? Bring light to my reasoning power that I can search for who am I in this play.” We need that discriminating power that constantly reminds us of the changing nature of the world, and the need to seek for That which is unchanging. We need that, vivek it is called; that discriminating power.

That discriminating power should help us to disengage more and more from the pull of the Māyā, and that is vairagya; we want that dispassion, that ability to detach from the play. We need vivek and vairagya in the play. You pray for that every morning in the Guru Gita. You are chanting the Guru Gita every day (the Guru Gita is like a wish fulfilling tree, it says in one verse) to cleanse the mind of the worldly impurities and to make those good dreams come true.

The seeking is important. In the seeking, we will find. So be a wise seeker and seek after that which is real, not unreal. “Lay your treasures in Heaven, not on earth, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be;” the words of the Christ.

So this is Day 12. “Seek and ye shall find. Knock and it shall be opened to you.”

Be careful of what you think of. Keep the company of the wise. Develop the qualities of vivek and vairagya, discrimination as to what is unreal and the possibility of what is real, and detachment from the world that pulls us in the Maya. Be a wise seeker.
